MaryAnna Savon is young and talented vocalist from Moscow. She was born and grew up in the heart of Russia. Her mother was born in Siberia but father is Cuban, that's why in her voice you can feel Russian soul and passion of Caribbean sea.
As I can remember music is always all around me. I started to sing when I was 4 years old, when I was 5 my mother took me to the brilliant music school, which was located in the neighborhood and I started to go there. The name of this music school was «Vesna» (in eng. – «Spring»), and it's famous in Russia and beyond due to its children's choir. I studied in this school for 10 years since I was 5 till 15 and there I sang in a choir, played piano and flute. As a part of a choir I took participation in a lot of world competitions and concert tours in Europe. With «Vesna» choir we gave concerts in Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovakia and others. In 2000 we won the highest European award among choirs of all types and ages - "Grand Prix of Europe 2000" in Tolosa, Spain. In addition to choral singing I played classical piano and participated in different piano competitions in my music school. At the same period of time I started to learn pop and jazz music in high school. I sang as a solo vocalist at various concerts and represented my school a lot of times on different vocal competitions.
After I finished school I admitted to «
Russian State University of Trade and Economics», but in the end of the first year I decided to take part in vocal competition “Mayskiy zhuk”. I got 3rd place there and met my first vocal coach very famous in Moscow – Afanasyeva Lyudmila Alekseevna. She told me that I should study music and should sing. I took a couple of lessons andenrolled to the «Moscow College of Music» summer of 2006. After college I joined the «Institute of Modern Arts». I graduated last year and right now I do master program in faculty of arts at «Moscow State University».
July-August 2014 I entered «5-week Summer Program» at Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was an amazing time full of music, talented peopl, many hours of practice in practice rooms and inspiring master-classes and concert in Berklee College and Boston. I performed at the «5-week Blow Out Concert» with «5-week Vocal Jazz Ensemble» by Ned Rosenblatt and with «Salsa Ensemble» by Ricardo Monzon. I did an audition an earned 10000$ schoolarship.
All this 8,5 years after I entered the college I didn’t only study, but I gave a lot of concerts. In the beginning of my singing career I sang in vocal jazz a’capella group «Cool and Jazzy». They are the first winner of the Ward Swingle Award 2000 (the best a cappella group in Europe ), a repeated laureate and winner of international contests and festivals. “Cool & Jazzy” has had concert tours all over Europe , Russia , and CIS. They’ve participated in such music events as Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux (Switzerland), Choir Olympiade in Lenz (Austria), Tampere Savel in Tampere (Finland), VoKaL ToTaL in Graz (Austria). The group has recorded about 40 jingles for some of the most popular European radio stations, they’ve also created some well-known remakes with such famous Russian pop stars as Bravo “The Wind Knows”, A-Studio “Julia”, Varum “No Answer” and many others. “Cool & Jazzy” has released 9 albums and created over a 160 compositions carrying the label «made by «Cool & Jazzy». I was a part of this group for 2,5 years from 2010th till 2012th.
Summer 2012th I participated in Russian version of famous TV-show «Voice». According to the results of my participation orchestra, that plays in this show, invited me to become a lead singer. So in 2012 I became a soloist of the «Fonograf Jazz Band». We travel a lot in Russia and abroad, do concert tours in Siberia, take part in jazz-festivals («Jazz on the Volga river» Samara, «Hibla Gerzmava invites…» Sukhumi and etc.), but also perform in famous concert halls in Moscow such as «Kremlin Palace», «Moscow International House of Music» and etc.
In addition to the main performances with the orchestra I often play with famous Russian band «NMProject», the founder of which is the Berklee College of Music graduate saxophonist – Nikolay Moiseenko. Nikolay Moiseenko Project is one of the most powerful and popular instrumental groups of the new generation. During the four years of its existence, Nikolay Moiseenko Project has released two albums, actively participates in jazz festivals in Russia and in Europe (festival Manor Jazz, JAZZ in the estate Sandetskogo (Kazan)), the oldest European Jazz Festival Jazz à Juan (Antibes, France).
